Nonprofit Leadership Team member, Carolyn Burke from Little Eaton, Derbyshire in the UK completed a fantastic fundraising event:
The challenge to raise money for charity can be a daunting one, as not everyone is motivated to part with their cash with a cheeky Facebook ask. But a piece of advice from The Borgen Project – Fundraising 101 sparked an idea, that turned out to be not only productive, but fun too! They said, do something you enjoy AND give people something for their money. What better way to raise awareness, I thought, than to eat, drink and enjoy the company of friends. Remembering how lucky we are and how, by eating together, we can help others to be able to eat together too. I had recently had the pleasure of having dinner at a friend’s house cooked by a chef called Louisa Ellis and thought perhaps she might do me a deal for charity. Cheeky phone call later and the amazing Louisa had said that she would provide her services free of charge. Yes! Free of charge, so that we could raise money together to help people less fortunate. And so, I invited a group of friends to come to my house to eat, drink and share great conversation…and of course to part with some cash! I asked them to donate what they thought the meal was worth to The Borgen Project via my fundraising page. Now, any chef cooking delicious food would be a treat, but Louisa is not just any chef. She won MasterChef UK in 2020 and was voted best chef of the year in 2022! I wish I could summon up the taste of her food for you on this page; you will have to take my word for it that her mackerel with wasabi emulsion, coriander and lime was delicious, and the Vairhona honeycomb petit fours, actual heaven! I want to thank Louisa from the bottom of my heart. For such a talent to give her time to our charity is honourable; she is truly a gem. We raised over £1,250 for The Borgen Project that evening and I know that money will be used so well, compelling Governments to act and help those that need it. Please join me in thanking Louisa Ellis by following her socials and sharing her talent, she sincerely deserves it. @cheflouisaellis www.cheflouisaellis.com
