State of the Union April 2017
[hr_invisible]
Note from the President:
- Syria. There’s a very direct correlation between the advocacy work of our team and the level of resources the U.S. has to respond to humanitarian situations like Syria. Now is more important than ever to be a voice for the voiceless. The White House has proposed enormous cuts to the International Affairs Budget. Congress ultimately determines funding levels, so these cuts will only happen if Congress isn’t hearing from constituents. Make sure your three members of Congress are hearing from a dozen or more people in support of the International Affairs Budget. Mobilize, request lobbying meetings, attend town halls meetings, generally be a polite pain in the butt and make sure your members of Congress know that this issue isn’t going away.
- The Content Team had one of its best months ever! Over 48,000 more people visited the website in March than in February! Incredibly impressive especially considering February was the previous record month.

Lobbying Efforts
We had 38 Congressional Meetings in March bringing our total number of meetings since January to 73. In 2016, we held 383 meetings and this year we’re aiming to increase that number to 400. We appreciate everyone’s hard work in reaching out to their Members of Congress on our legislative priorities.

Advocacy Emails
Congressional leaders from every single state except for North Dakota have received emails from Borgen Project supporters. Since January, we have emailed close to 80% of Congress (Senate plus House of Representatives).
We had a total of 6,236 emails going out to Congress in March, a record for any one month. We have sent close to 15,000 emails since the start of the year.
The Borgen Project is heading to Capitol Hill next month to meet with Congressional leaders and staffers. Our April mobilizing efforts are essential. We want to keep the momentum of 6,000+ emails from March going. Be sure to email and to have your contacts email via our Action Center each week!
